Affiliate unions, or parent unions, provide important support when a workplace is organizing. When GEU organized, the AFT and AAUP provided staff and financial support to help us build membership, and bargain for our first contract. Now that we are on our feet and have income from dues-paying members, we are paying our own way for rent, materials, etc. But staff members from AFT and AAUP continue to provide key support with bargaining, grievances, and organizing.
