Upcoming Training Opportunities

AFT-Oregon’s Member Organizing Institute (MOI) is open for Spring term applications. MOI is a three-month intensive paid training program that teaches organizing skills through real-world experience with mentorship from AFT-OR and local leaders. The institute’s goal is to train union members to build power, grow our membership, engage current members in our union and ensure the long-term sustainability of our local by training members to continue their organizing work and help develop others after participating. 

We are looking for members who are interested in using this development opportunity as a way to jump-start or deepen a long-term involvement with their local.  Member organizers will be paid $25/hour, for a maximum of 10 hours a week. The MOI application and a member email template are attached to this email. 

Applications for Spring are due March 11th, 2026.

Program highlights include:

  • Attend a two-day organizing training with other member organizing institute/academy participants
  • Get real-world field experience under guidance from professional organizing staff 
  • Regular team meetings with other MOI participants to compare and learn
  • Establish & build organizing practices for our local

Key dates:

  • Program start date: March 30th, 2026
