It’s easy to join the Graduate Employees Union at Portland State! Just complete the online GEU membership form.

Our membership voted to set a dues rate of 2% of monthly gross income, an amount typical for graduate unions. Dues are automatically deducted by payroll.

We currently have a few active committees you can join, and a ton of other ways to get involved, both for your department as a steward or ‘behind the scenes’ helping with operations. Our Committees and Groups:

• Organizing Committee: Organizing includes helping build community and solidarity amongst graduate employees by organizing meetings and events, working on the website and communications to keep members informed, and recruiting new members. Meetings are 5pm on Mondays via zoom.
• International Student Caucus: The international caucus is for all current graduate employees from outside the United States. We’re working on solving international-specific issues like excessive fees and health insurance waivers. Currently meeting Wednesdays at 5:30pm via zoom
• Grievance Committee: A grievance is a formal complaint raised by an employee against the employer within the confines of the workplace. The Grievance Committee will determine the viability of grievances and track grievances in progress, and may support GEU members throughout the grievance process. Meetings are currently biweekly, 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month, at 11am via zoom.
