The union recognizes that Portland State University stands on the traditional tribal lands that were once home to about 200,000 Indigenous people, who spoke 60-70 languages. What we now call Portland and Multnomah County were the traditional lands of the: Multnomah, Kathlamet, Clackamas, Cowlitz, bands of Chinook, Tualatin, Kalapuya, Molalla and many other Tribes who made their homes along the Columbia River. We are guests on this land, and must not forget those who lived here before us.
